Challenges Faced By Our Mother Earth

April 22 is being celebrated world wide as Earth Day. Earth is everything to we people and to protect earth means protect ourselves. This year’s subject is how to face climatic variations of earth. As days pass by, climatic variations are affecting its living beings a lot. It leads to volcano, drifts of continents as well as ocean currents. Such processes have reached a steady state as men have interfered in earth’s matters for their selfish thoughts.

Carbon revolution

Before industrial revolution, percentage of carbon in earth’s atmosphere is 280 ppm. In 2011, it has reached 397 ppm. Increase in temperature can adversely affect rain cycle and dispersal of water a lot. Both droughts and floods show double effect. Water level of rivers may decrease and oceans increase resulting in cyclones as well.

Global warming affects most – Himalayas and its snow mountains most. When snow melts rapidly, it kills crops resulting in the extinction of many varieties of crops. Earth day collects data of such living beings that have been affected by such human interventions. World even witnessed heavy floods and severe summer in the recent times.

If earth’s umbrella is damaged

Man made gases can damage earth’s umbrella, Ozone a lot. CO2, Methane, CFC and Nitrous Oxide – when they pass rays with high wavelength, they absorb the reflected heat from earth’s surface. As a result, earth’s atmosphere gets heated and this phenomenon is known as Green house effect. But if the amount of such gases increases in atmosphere, it increases the temperature of earth’s surface resulting in global warming. According to reports, by year 2100, temperature may raise from 1.1 up to 6.4 degrees. Thus, as a result of melting snow, sea water level may increase 18-59 cms.

World population is rising in a steady state

Now earth’s population is 600 crores. Vehicle count is 95 crores. Everyday tones of trees are being cut. Every year 700 lakh barrel crude oil is being dug and 7 million tone CO2 is spread to atmosphere. Already overall earth’s temperature has increased by 0.6 degrees. Tones of plastic substances and chemicals are being dumped on earth. All these human activities result in the pollution of earth’s atmosphere and drinking – both.

Now it’s time to wake up

If things go in this fashion, days of our mother earth are counted! As true lovers of earth and nature, let us do our small duties as a sort of commitment to protect the earth, which gives us food, energy, fresh air, water and everything we need.
