Pongumoodu is a small busy residential area situated north-west of Thiruvananthapuram city, Kerala. The place is near to the Government Medical College Trivandrum and lies in between Ulloor and Sreekaryam. There are many educational institutions, banks , recreation centers, computer sale outlet, pharmacies , driving schools are in Pongumoodu . There is one Federal Bank branch in Pongumoodu.

College of Engineering Thiruvananthapuram, St. Mary’s School, Chempaka Kinder Garden, Sree Chitra Institute of Medical Science and Technology, Mahatma Gandhi College, Centre for Earth Science Studies, Kendriya Vidyala Akkulam and Kendriya Vidyala Pattom are major educational institutions nearby. Ulloor Sree Subhramaniya Temple, Bhagavathy Temple, Malankara Orthodox Church, Idiyadikode Devi Temple, Elankavil Temple are major workship centres near Pongumoodu.

The diety in Ulloor Sree Subhramaniya Temple is Lord Subramanya. There are thypooyam festival and Koodiyattam festival in this temple. ‘Kaavadiyattom’ is a colourful ritual art in the thypooyam festival is the major celebration in the temple. Thypooyam festival is celebrated on the day of star Pooyam around Pournami day.  During Kavadiyattam each one carries on his shoulder an (Kavadi) a huge bow, decorated with flowers and peacock feather on the sides. The dancers of kaavadi yattom dress up in bright yellow or saffron costumes and dance to the beats of udukku, chenda and nadaswaram. A group of such kavadi dancers make a beautiful sight in the place. It is a religious dance offered to Lord Murugan.

 Doctors Diagnostics and Research  Centre , Chaitanya Eye Hospital in Kesavadasapuram, one of the ventures of Nair Service Society, Akkulam Air force, Akulam Lake ( 4 kms) are a small distance from Pongumoodu .Famous multi speciality SUT hospital is now in Pongumoodu. Pongumoodu is 6 Km from Technopark Kerala.

Kallampalli, Sreekaryam,   Kazhakuttam, Kochulloor, Ulloor, Sivasakhti Nagar, Prasanth Nagar, Pulayanarkotta, Kesavadasapuram, Pattom are nearest places.

Bapuji Nagar, Prasanth Nagar, Priyadarshini, Bethany Nagar, Janasakthi Nagar, and Archana Nagar are nearby colonies. 

Thiruvananthapuram, Nedumangad, Venjaramoodu are nearest cities. There is another place called ‘Pongumoodu’ near Kattakada in Kerala, close to Trivandrum city. So this place is called ‘Ulloor Pongumoodu’.

The nearest Airport is Trivandrum International Airport (13 Km).The nearest Railway Stations are Thiruvanathapuram Central Railway Station and Pettah Railway Station.
