Parassala is a small town, located in Parassala Taluk in Thiruvananthapuram district. Parassala lies about 30 km from Thiruvananthapuram, along the National Highway 47 in south of Kerala, India. In parassala , people have the confluence of languages and cultures of tamil and Malayalam .It is on the border of both Kerala and Tamil Nadu.
Parassala Sree Mahadeva temple is one of the foremost centres of worship in south Kerala was built by Mallen Chembakaraman Delava of Venad royal family. The temple enshrines the idols of Goddess Parvati and Lord Ganesh and Nagas. Here Lord Siva facing the west, which is considered as a rare and devotees even from far off places attend the worship. In the temple Shree-kovil is made of sandstone in an unusual design. There is one idol of Unni-Ganapathi on the western side of the ottakkal-mandapam (it is believed that this idol is growing in size as time passes!). Pradhosha puja and dhara are the main offerings at the temple. There is the famous Christain Abbs Memorial Church in Parassala,, built between in the 1850s by the English missionary Rev. John Abbs. Parassala is the holy place which is well known for communal harmony.
The town has numerous churches, temples, hospitals, mosques and educational institutions.
Southern Kurisumala, a famous Christian pilgrim center, and Venkanchi Vattavilai Sri Bhadrakali Amman Temple are worth visiting which is nearer to the town.
The former Deputy Speaker of the Kerala Legislative Assembly, Sundaran Nadar, came from Parassala. Mr A T GEORGE belongs to the Congress front is currently the Member of Kerala Legislative Assembly.
Hospital Jn , Idichakkaplamoodu Inchivila Kaduvakuzhi Kolliyodu Mundaplavila Pavathiyanvila Vannyacode Ambadi , PPM Jn Neduvanvila , Chirakulam , Cheruvarakonam Munivarthottam, Melekonam ,Samudaya Potta South are some of the nearest place. Some state Government Offices are Parassala, Sub Registrar's Office, mini civil station with all important state government office ,sub regional transport officer's office.
Near by Schools are Govt. Vhss Parassala, Govt. T. H.S., Kulathoor, Evans Hs Parassala, Samuel Lms Hss Parassala, Samuel Tamil Hs Parassala and colleges are VTM N.S.S College, Saraswathy Educational Trust, Dr.S.M.CSI Medical College and Hospital, Karakonam.The nearest railhead is Parassala Railway Station, about two kilometers away.
