Thiruvananthapuram formerly called Trivandrum is a beautiful city that is nestled in the southern edge of Kerala. It is the capital city of Kerala and its commercial and political centre. It is a prime tourist destination where innumerable museums, palaces and temples form the centre of attraction. A cluster of seven hills mingles to form this city, which is bestowed with some of the most engrossing landscape that leaves a lasting impression in the minds of the tourists.

The Akkulam Lake is also an important tourist destination. One can indulge in such activities like boating. It is an ideal place for picnic where nature envelops a commanding view before you. There is an amazing dam near the Western Ghats which is a great tourist spot. It is a good picnic spot for spending time with family and friends.

 

The ancient Koyikkal palace is another tourist attraction in Trivandrum. The structure of the palace encompasses the traditional Kerala architectural style. The palace comprises of sloping roofs and courtyard. It houses a museum where several musical instruments are exhibited.

 

The Agastyarkoodam is a lofty peak situated on the Western Ghats. It is located at an altitude of 1800 meters and has an amazing cone shape. The peak is an ideal place for trekking. The Sri Chitra Art Gallery is another idyllic place for all art lovers. There is a section in the gallery devoted solely to the paintings of Raja Ravi Varma an eminent Indian painter. The Indian section also comprises of works of Rabindranath Tagore, Jamini Roy, K.K.Hebar etc. It is a great place where one can spend quality time.

 

The Napier Museum is another place that should not be missed at any cost. It is a 19thcentury monument which houses a collection of rare and unique items. One can get a fair idea of the Indo Saracenic architecture.

 

The strategic location of Trivandrum makes it easy to access the place. It has an International airport and many Indian cities are well connected to it.
