The city of Raipur is also the capital of the newly formed Indian state of Chhattisgarh. Though this is popularly known as the state capital there is a historical lineage that it has on its own. The city can be dated back to the 14th century when it was founded by the Kalchuri king named Ram Chandra. The city has however come a long way since the days of its old. This is an important center of trade and commerce of the state.


Besides trade and economic factors there are several tourist attractions too that makes Raipur attract several thousands of tourists and visitors every year. There is the Mahant Ghasidas Memorial Museum. There are several objects of interest and historical value and natural wonders that are collected here since its establishment in 1875.


You can also visit Mahakoshal Art Gallery. This unique building is octagonal in shape and is an effective showcase of local talents. There are plenty of art and handicrafts that are developed by various villages and surrounding regions. These are displayed here.


There is no such place in India that will not show you the splendor of temples. In Raipur you can visit Mahamaya Temple at the old fort area. There is also the Samleswari temple nearby that is dedicated to the Goddess Samlai. On the banks of the River Kharun there is the temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. This was built in the year 1402. The Mahadev Temple is also flanked by the Mahadev Ghat that is an amazing place to take a look.


There are plenty of shopping and entertainment options in the city of Raipur. Take a trip of the shopping complexes and besides other things you may indulge in amazing artifacts and local handicrafts. There is an amazing array of food options available which is tempting and awesome to savor. There are items that are made from wood, cane and bamboo, metal and a variety of other items. You will also be able to select from a wide range of weaves that are an indigenous part of its culture. There is also an array of jewelry that is available in different designs. These are made of metallic bases and beads.

And then there is a wide range of excellent medium rated budget hotels available. This is ideal if you have a long vacation in mind. The best time to visit Raipur in the months from October to February and March. The summers are fairly hot in this part of the country and the monsoons will surely make for difficult travel.
