Patnitop Travel Guide

The location of Patnitop is in the Udhampur district of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir. It is at a height of 2024 meters above and will come on the way from Udhampur to Srinagar. The River Chenab flows through the place.

Patnitop is a hill station that’s located on a plateau in the Shiwalik Hills of the Himalayan range. The region is still one of those places that is yet to see that heavy influx of tourists and visitors. There is an almost unspoiled and picturesque natural beauty providing breathtaking natural scenes and locales.

Apart from the excellent views comparable with that of paradise there are long walks that you could take through the green expanses of landscapes and unpaved walks. You will enjoy the quietude and calm of the trees and vivid colors of the various flowers that are seen here.

A popular place to see in Patnitop is the Naag temple. This is a 600 years old temple that is built around the God of Snakes and is widely worshipped here in this region. There is also a considerable number of worshippers who come here from other places to offer their prayers. This is also a place where you can enjoy the facilities for paragliding and skiing. Skiing is however possible in the winter months between January and February. The summer months sees a lot of tourists in the region and paragliding is an available facility at that time.

There are several hotels that provide comfortable and affordable accommodation facilities here. There is a luxury resort in the place and several budget hotels and bungalows too. There are also cottages and bungalows that are maintained and made available by the Jammu and Kashmir tourism department. You are always advised to make prior bookings at any of these places. There is usually a heavy gathering of tourists and visitors to the place especially in the summer months.

The nearest airport to Patnitop is at Jammu. There is a distance of 112 kilometers that needs to be covered to reach here. The nearest railway station is at Jammu and is known as Jammu Tawi. Perhaps the most commonly available transport service in the region is by bus. Both from the airport and the railway station you will have the choice of different types of buses to travel. There is also availability of taxi and car rental services to these places.

One of the main reasons of visiting Patnitop is its natural beauty. Here you will be able to enjoy the climate of the region coupled with the extraordinary scenic beauty of the surrounding hills of the snow capped Himalayan range and the river waters that flow through it. There is an amazing assembly of nature and its splendid beauty to be seen here.
