St Stephens Church in Ooty is located on the Mysore Road and is one of the oldest churches of the region. The foundation of the church was laid on 23rd April 1829 by Stephen Rumbold Lushington who was the Governor of Madras at that time.

The church was consecrated by John Matthias Turner on 5th November 1930 and was opened to the people on 3rd April 1831. This church is maintained by the Church of South India. The timber and other products used for its construction were taken from the palace of Tipu Sultan located on the island of Srirangapatna.

The painting of the Last Supper and the stained glass window with scenes related to the life of Christ are the attractions here. There is a hammer like structure tied to wooden planks and on pulling that it produces a musical sound.
