Mudhumalai National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary is situated on the north western side of Nirgiri Hills and houses the endangered species of animals and birds. It spreads over an area of 322 square kilometers and is a part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve.

 This has been announced as a Tiger Reserve in April 2007. There are about 48 tigers here which roam about freely. It is situated at an elevation of 1266 meters above mean sea level.

Animals found here: Bengal tiger, Indian leopard, jungle cat, leopard cat, golden jackal, stripped hyena, sloth bear, dhole, gray langur, bonnet macaque, sambar deer, chital deer, Indian spotten chevrotain, wild boar, rodents like Indian giant squirrel, red giant flying squirrel, reptiles like python, flying lizard, spectacled cobra, Asian pit vipers, monitor lizard, etc.

Plants found here: Tropical deciduous forest plants, casseria ovoides, sneeze wort, bamboo brakes, olea dioca, bambusa, syzygium cumini, etc.

Birds found here: peacock, gray jungle fowl, Malabar grey hornbill, bulbuls, goggle eyed plover, magpie-robin, green pigeons, small green barbet, brown dove, mynah, red spur fowl, etc.

Attractions in Mudhumalai Wildlife Sanctuary: There are many scenic spots in the sanctuary such as the Chief Minister’s Watchtower, Kargudi view point, etc. Elephant Safari and Van Safari are organized by the Tamil Nadu Forest Department. Moyar River and the waterfalls named Moyar falls are other important attractions. The preserved specimens of the dead animals are seen in the museum near the elephant feeding camp.
