Nubra Valley Travel Guide

In the Indian Territory of Ladakh and to the north of Leh there is the beautiful location of Nubra Valley. This is also known as the Valley of Flowers. This is also a meeting place of the Shyok River with the Siachen River and here is a valley that’s formed to separate the region of Ladakh from the karakoram Range of mountains.

The location of the Nubra Valley is at an altitude of more than 10,000 feet above sea level and can be accessible only through the Khardung La of the Leh region. One of the main attractions of the Nubra valley is the river by the same name that is a tributary of the Shyok River. It passes through the valley and flows into the Indus River.

One of the most fascinating feelings that one can have when they reach this place is that of being in touch with the same route of caravan travel that was in use thousands of years ago. The place still retains its unspoiled natural beauty and calming environs to soothe out one’s mind when they reach here. It has one of the most spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and the valley within.

This is a place for adventure seekers and people who love to be on the quest for ideal destinations. That apart you can also enjoy being part of the remote and beautiful villages that are around the region. There are several villages here that go by the names of Sumur, Kyagar, Tirith and Panamik among several others. This is also a place where you will find several monasteries in these villages. There is the Samstangling monastery situated between the village of Sumur and Kyagar.

The village of Panamik is a place of the hot springs and also the Ensa Gompa. This is more than 250 years old. One of the important villages of the Nubra Valley is that of Diskit. Here you will be able to see Diskit monastery. If you are there check out position and you will be amazed.

There is also a large part of sand dunes. This region lies between the villages of Hundar and Diskit. Here you can also see Bactrian camels that roam here. They are a part of the livestock of the local people. There is a village of Baigdandu that you can visit for some of its beautiful views and serenely picturesque locales. You will also notice a marked difference of the features of the people here compared to that of Ladhak. There is a story of these being a Greek band of people who were here in search of the tomb of Jesus and finally settled here.

The months of June to August are perfect for travel plans to Nubra Valley. There are extensive arrangements made for full furnished tents by the tourism department of the state.
