This museum was opened in Mumbai and later shifted to Rajghat in New Delhi in 1961 on the 13th death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. It showcases the life and principles of Mahatma Gandhi and houses a library of books having those written by and about Gandhi and related books. There are more than 35,000 books in this library.

 

The gallery in the museum has a vast collection of paintings and other personal items used by Gandhi including his walking sticks, dhoti worn by him when he was assassinated and the bullets used to kill him.
