Jantar Mantar is an observatory having 13 architectural astronomy instruments. This was established in 1724 by Maharaja Jai Singh II of Jaipur. The purpose was to compile the astronomical tables and predict the times and movements of the sun and other planets.

 

Samrat Yantra is the important instrument here which is a sundial. It is 70 feet high and 144 feet long and 10 feet thick. Jayaprakash Yantra has hollow hemispheres with markings on the concave surfaces to align the position of the stars. Mishra Yantra shows the noon time of different cities of the world.
