Pench Tiger Reserve spreads over 257 square kilometers in the Seoni District and Chhindwara District of Madhya Pradesh. Pench River flows through the region north to south. The Tiger Reserve has been divided into three forest ranges namely Karmajhiri, Gumtara and Kurai and nine circles. The Pench sanctuary was first notified in September 1977 and was formed under the Project Tiger scheme in November 1992. The animals seen here are tiger, leopard, dhole, jungle cat, Indian civet, wolf, hyena, jackal, palm civet and sloth bear. Some of the herbivores here are wild pig, barking deer, nilgai, gaur, sambar, chital and chowsingha.
