Vaikom Mahadeva Temple is situated at Vaikom and is associated with the Rishi Parasurama, who is supposed to be the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. With the traditional architectural style of Kerala, the temple is also famous for its elephant pageant. During Vaikkath Ashtami festival, people flock here and this festival is celebrated every year during the months of November and December. It is believed that the idol of Lord Shiva found here belongs to the Treta Yuga and he is called Vaikkathappan.
