Pallipuram Fort was built by Portuguese in 1503 and is one of the oldest existing European forts in India. The fort was captured by Dutch in 1661 and it was sold to the State of Travancore in 1789. It is built in hexagonal shape and is also known as Ayikkotta or Alikotta.

 

There is a cellar inside the fort and an opening in the north side that leading to this cellar. The fort is 32 feet long and 34 feet high with walls of six feet in thickness. The laterite, chunam and wood are used for its construction.
