Coonan Kurisu Palli or Holy Cross Church has historical importance and is located in Mattancherry shopping area. It was believed to be established by St. Thomas, the disciple of Jesus Christ who landed in Kochi in 52 A.D. The church belongs to Nazranis, the followers of Jesus of Nazerene. They are called Syrian Christians who reaffirmed their allegiance to the orthodox traditions of Syria by their oath known as Coonan Kurisu Satyam.
