Government Central Museum in Jaipur is one of the oldest museums and was constructed by the British officer Lt. Swinton Jacob in 1876. It was also called Albert Museum. During the rule of Maharaja Ram Singh, it was used as town hall. His successor Madho Singh changed this into an art museum.

The Government Central Museum was built in the Indo-Sarcenic style of architecture and houses many rare and beautiful objects. In the upper floor of the museum, the portraits of the kings of Jaipur are placed. It has a wide variety of objects such as jewelry, metalwork made of brass by the expert artisans and sculpture.

The miniature paintings from Udaipur, Jaipur, Kota and Kishangarh schools are displayed here. The woodwork, metal work and other crafts showcase the skills of the expert workers. It also contains the pottery and utensils and other antiques used by the people of the royal past. The time to visit the museum is from 10.30 A.M. to 4.30 P.M.
