The district of Daman is one among the Union Territories of India. This is a province that is directly under the governance of the central authority. Daman is located on the westernmost coast of India in Gujarat. It is also flanked by the expanses of the Arabian Sea on the other side to its west.  This is also a province that was earlier in the holds of the Portuguese in the pre independence era and even for a few years afterwards. And this is clearly resplendent in the colonial structures and architecture that stands even today.

Daman is vastly popular for its natural beauty and the quiet serenity in its environment. There is plenty of lush greenery that could transport your senses almost immediately to a world of happiness and peace and away from the bustling madness of modern cities. There is also a stunning range of beaches at Daman that you can explore. Apart from strolling on the soft sands and watching the sea there are plenty of water sports that can be experienced as well. It goes a long way to making an exceptionally exciting vacation.

If you are planning to explore the historical remains of the region there are a few places that you must visit. One of them is the Diu Fort and the Panikota Fort. The Diu Fort was built in the year 1535 AD and being on the shores of the sea provides a picturesque view. If you visit the Panikota Fort there is a small boat ride that needs to be made. It is a structure that speaks of grandeur and elaborates designs. There is also the Church of Our Lady which is well known in Daman. This is a typical Portuguese style of architecture that has gold painted intricate engravings made of wood. Then there is the Cathedral of Bom Jesu. This beautiful church was constructed in 1603 AD and is a popular tourist attraction.

There are plenty of accommodation options that is available at Daman. You can choose to stay at one of the luxury hotels of impeccable standards and various facilities. There are lesser range hotels too that are available for those who are traveling on different budgets. You will also be able to stay in various private tourist accommodations and government guest houses as well. But in case of the latter there is a need for prior booking and reservations.

You may also look forward to a great taste of local cuisine that is available. There is a mood of celebration in the traditions of the people and there is entertainment options available at all times of the year. There are several transport modes available to reach Daman and is well connected with the rest of the country.
