Sankey Lake or Sankey Tank is one of the picnic spots in Bangalore and is developed by the Karnataka State Tourism Development Corporation. The boating facilities including the row boats, pedal boats and motor boats are offered by the Mayura Sankey Boat Club.

Colonel Richard Hieram Sankey of Madras Sappers Regiment constructed the Sankey Lake in 1882 to fulfill the water requirements of the Bangalore city. Another name of this lake is Gandhadhakotikere.

It covers an area of 37.1 acres and is situated in the suburbs of Vyalikaval, Sadashiva Nagar and Malleshwaram. The Government of Karnataka has implemented various restoration activities such as removing the encroachments, creating nurseries around the lake, constructing paved walkways and landscaped parks and restoring the swimming pool.

The boat club is opened on all weekdays from 10 A.M. to 6 P.M. and the swimming club is opened from 6 A.M. to 5 P.M. on all weekdays except Friday. The ladies only time is from 3.30 P.M. to 4.30 P.M.

It has an important place in the Ganesh Chaturthi festival as the idols are immersed here. To protect the water of the lake, government has constructed special tank for this purpose. This is a good picnic spot for tourists and the residents of Bangalore.
