Triveni Sangam or Sangam means the confluence of three rivers. This spot is considered to be sacred in Hindu traditions. In Allahabad two rivers Ganges and Yamuna meet at one point and it is believed that mythical Saraswati River also meets. So this place has great religious importance and the Kumbh Mela festival is conducted here once in 12 years.  This is the place where the ashes of many national leaders including Mahatma Gandhi were dissolved. Taking a dip at this holy river confluence during the time of Kumbh Mela is considered to get rid of all our sins.
