Jalandhar District Facts: The place is mentioned in the Hindu puranas as Jalandhara Peetha. Jalandhar served as the capital of Punjab until 1953 when Chandigarh was built. It lies between two rivers Satluj and Beas and hence it got its name which means the area inside water.
