Zerbanoo Gifford Biography

Zerbanoo Gifford is a Human Rights campaigner, writer and founding director of the ASHA Foundation. At present she resides in England, married to international human rights lawyer Richard Gifford. She is the eldest daughter of Bailey Irani, the founder President of the World Zoroastrians Organisation. Her son, Alexander Justice is a known actor, model and theatre director.

 

Zerbanoo was born in Gujarat as the daughter of Bailey Irani, the founder President of the World Zoroastrians Organisation. Her mother, Kitty Mazda studied child development. Zerbanoo was brought up in London. Her parents ran a hotel there. Zerbanoo did her schooling at Roedean School, near Brighton. Since 6 years old, Zerbanoo has been associated with charity work. Once she happened to see poor children in Pune and once she returned back to London, she made flags and sold them to passers-by for a penny each. She later sent 10 pounds that she raised through this task to then Prime Minister of India, Nehru. Nehru sent her a thank you letter appreciating her. Later she received Nehru Centenary Award for social service for women and children internationally.

 

In 1982, her name was added to history when she was elected as the first non-white woman councilor for the Liberal Party. She went on to become the first Asian woman to stand for parliament in 1983. Zerbanoo is the Founding Director of the ASHA Foundation, a charity which encourages and supports philanthropy worldwide. She has also published one book titled, Confessions to a Serial Womaniser- Secrets of the World’s Inspirational Women which lists the achievements of 300 women from sixty countries who she has interviewed. She has served as the patron of several international charity organizations and has also served as Director of Anti-Slavery International and London Organiser.
