Zaira Wasim is a National award winning actress from Bollywood, who shot to fame playing young   Geeta Phogat and Aamir Khan’s daughter in India’s highest grosser Dangal released in 2016. She won National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her debut performance in the film. She plays lead role in her second film, Secret Superstar, the role of an aspiring singer, and both these big breaks were given by Aamir Khan, who plays a pivot role in her second release. Her debut film was directed by Nitesh Tiwari and second film by Advait Chandan, who debuts with this film.

Zaira was born on October 23, 2000 in Srinagar to Zahid and Zarqa Wasim. Her father works as an executive manager in Jammu & Kashmir Bank. Her mother is a teacher. She completed her basic schooling in 2017. Though her parents didn’t support her to join films first, her school principal and aunt backed her decision and convinced her parents as well. Zaira has appeared in two television commercials before she made her magic debut to Bollywood through Dangal in 2016. Her performance as young Geeta was helmed by critics and audience alike, and she won National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress for her debut performance in the film. She also won Big Zee Entertainment Award for "Best child Artist" for her debut role.

After the overwhelming response from audience for her superb performance in the film, this teenager also faced wrath from netizens very soon. Trolls were created on her moral character in early January and her meeting with Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti also drew public attention and controversies. But she received support from Bollywood. Wasim's mother’s Facebook comment some time back during an India-Pakistan match played in Dhaka for World Twenty20 championship in 2014 also drew controversies.
