Yusuf Pathan Biography

Yusuf Pathan is a young Indian cricket player. He was born on 17th November 1982 at Baroda, Gujarat. His full name is Yusuf Khan Pathan and his nickname is Lethal Weapon. He is one of the best all-rounders in Indian cricket team. He is a right-handed batsman and a right arm off break bowler. Irfan Pathan is his brother who is also playing for Indian Cricket team.

 

He played a remarkable game as a batsman and off spinner for the Baroda Under-16 team in the Vijay Merchant Trophy in 1999-2000. By his performance, he soon entered into Baroda Under-19 and the West ZoneUnder-19 teams. In 2001-02, he played his first Ranchi match against Saurastra. Then he became the permanent player in the Baroda squads.

 

In the season 2004-05, he got the record of Baroda’s fourth highest scorer and third wicket taker. In the last 3 Ranchi season, he scored more than 250 runs and took at least 15 wickets in each seasons. He has recorded the highest strike rate in the year 2006-07 Ranchi Trophy. He performed well in Deodhar Trophy and Twenty20 domestic tournament in 2006-07. This led him to enter into India’s squad for Twenty20 World Championship in South Africa.

 

His debut match was against Pakistan in Twenty20 International match in which he played as an opening batsman and scored 15 runs. By his better performance in domestic career, he was selected by Rajasthan Royals team to play Indian Premier League in 2008. In this season, he scored 435 runs and grabbed 8 wickets. He has recorded the fastest half century from 21 balls against Deccan Chargers. He won the title Man of the Match in the final.  After his best performance, he was selected as a member of the Indian squads to play One Day International (ODI) matches.

 

His first match in ODI career was against Pakistan at Dhaka on 10th June 2008. He played in Kitply Cup and Asian Cup. But he failed to prove his talent and so he wasn’t selected for the Sri Lanka Series. Again he performed well in domestic matches which impressed selectors to select him for England ODI series.  In 2011 IPL, he played for Kolkata Knight Riders. So far, he has played 54 ODI matches and scored 808 runs with a strike rate of 24.48 and picked 20 wickets with a bowling average of 37.64. He recorded 2 centuries and 3 half centuries.
