Yashwant Sardeshpande Biography

Yashwant Sardeshpande is a popular theatre actor, director and playwright of Kannada language. Guru Samsthe is his troupe and he conducts theatre shows in his own troupe as well as Hubli and Gurubala Entertainers, Bangalore. Till now he has conducted more than 500 shows. His noted Kannada shows are All The Best, Rashichakra, Olave jeevana Shakshatkara, Neenaanaadre Naaneenena, Sahi Ri Sahi, Ondata Bhatraddu, Andhayuga, Sahebaru Baruttare, Miss Point, Dil Mange More and Hingadre Dot Comedy. He has also used his plays as a medium for election campaign for his favourite political party – Bharateeya Janatha Party. He is called 'Nageya Sardar' by Shimogga theatre lovers. He also has a few more nick names like 'Nage Natakagala Badshah' given by Udupi Manipal people, 'Nagegadala Navika' given by Bellary art lovers and 'Rangabhumiya Super Star' by Karnataka press.

 

After graduation he took Diploma in Theatre Arts from Minasam Theatre Institute, Heggodu. He did the diploma course during the period – 1985-1986. Later he went abroad and did a Certificate Course in Cinema and Drama writing, New York University, US. As a popular theater personality, he has completed more than 500 plays and often called by various names by his admirers. In the 2008 State Elections, he used his plays for propagating the Bharatiya Janata Party election campaign and manifesto in the state.

 

Though he has been associated with theater works most, he has produced and directed one Kannada movie named Idea Madyara. He has also written the film scripts of a few movies like Rama Shama Bhama, Matha, Jootatata, Dhimaku, Shri Danammadevi, Student, Tutturi and Atithi. He has also worked as associative director for a few movies.
