Writer Shaji Biography

Writer Shaji is an Indian writer who writes on popular music. He owns a music blog and loves to write on music and how it connects to human life. He interprets music as a good listener. He has also served as the celebrity judge of Vijay TV Music Awards and Sujatha Ilakkiya Viruthu, a Tamil literary award instituted in the name of writer Sujatha. Apart from popular musicians, through his writings he also exposes less heard singers and music artists to mainstream. He writes about singers, lyricists as well as music directors. A music lover belonging to Idukki, Kerala, Shaji at present resides in Chennai. He writes in Malayalam, English and Tamil and well appreciated by music lovers and fraternity.

 

Shaji is his real name and he is also called writer Shaji and Chennai Shaji. As a prolific writer on Indian music, he writes columns on various Indian dailies and magazines belonging to Malayalam, English and Tamil languages. He is a regular columnist of Malayalam magazines like Chandrika Weekly, Kala kaumudi, Malayalam Vaarika and Deepika. He also writes for The Hindu, Times of India, India Today and Ananda Vikatan. One of his popular series ‘Music Beyond Words’ has been translated and published in Tamil literary magazine Uyirmmai  titled ‘Sollil Adangaatha Isai'. S. Ramakrishnan and Jeyamohan are two prolific writers of modern times who regularly translate writings of Shaji.

 

Isaiyin Oliyil, Music Beyond Words, Sollil Adangaatha Isai, Isaiyin Thanimai and The Music of Solitude are his published books. He appeared in Tamil film Onaayum Aattukkuttiyum portraying the character role of CBCID Lal for which he received critics’ appreciation. He is also the Trustee in South India for the Salil Chowdhury Foundation of Music.
