Wendell Rodricks Biography

Wendell Rodricks is a leading fashion designer of India, based on Goa. He is one among the top 10 fashion designers of the country India at present. He has experimented with wide range of fashion elements from fashion journalism to styling for international advertising campaigns. For his contributions to Indian fashion industry, Indian government honoured him with Padma Shri in the year 2014. He is openly gay. Rodricks was the first India designer to be invited to IGEDO - the world's largest garment fair and the first Indian designer to open the Dubai Fashion Week.

Rodricks was a catering graduate. But very soon he shifted his career to fashion world. He is settled in Goa since 1993. He also acted in a film named Boom in 2003, based on models and fashion industry. He has also done a cameo appearance in Bollywood movie, Fashion. He has also appeared in the television play True West in 2002. Since 1993, living in Colvale village of North Goa, he has achieved success for sending out creative collections for each fashion season. Though he lives in a remote village of Goa, he showed the whole world that he is updated with every fashion updates of the industry.

He has done research works on Goa costumes and its history and interned at National Museum of Costume and Fashion in Lisbon and the Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York. He strongly believes that Indian clothes have inherited influences from other parts of the world.  He has quoted some instances as well. According to him, the Indian sari could be derived from Athenian dressthe 'kurta' is a pure Moghul creation.
