Waris Ahluwalia Biography

Waris Ahluwalia is a Sikh American designer and actor based in New York. He is of Indian origin, born in Amritsar, Punjab in 1974. House of Waris – is his designer house he established in US, which collaborates with many other designers and artists too. It is strongly influenced by ancient kingdoms. The designer travels frequently to Rome and Rajasthan, works with craftsmen, goldsmiths and diamond setters who had connections with royal families earlier. Waris has worked with A.P.C., Forevermark of the De Beers Group of Companies, and Tilda Swinton for Pringle of Scotland, apart from many other collaborations. He is also an actor associated with US productions, both in films and TV shows.

 

Waris Ahluwalia was born in 1974 in Amritsar, Punjab. His family migrated to US when he was only five and later they settled there. Waris grew up in Brooklyn, New York. He also lived in Los Angeles before he permanently settled in New York city. He founded House of Waris, the designer house and currently one of the leading designers in US of Indian traditional costumes. He remained a member of CFDA and was placed on Vanity Fair's Best Dressed List in 2010. He writes the column 'Love & Waris' on online portal, Style.com.

 

In February 2011, Ahluwalia held his first New York Fashion Week, and later collaborated with many leading designers for special projects. In 2012, Ahluwalia contributed to the summer issue of The Paris Review. The following year, House of Waris launched a line for Valentine's Day, called 'Boo'. As a film actor, he marked his debut with The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou in 2004, and later appeared in The Grand Budapest Hotel, Beeba Boys etc.
