Viveka (tamil Lyricist) Biography

Viveka is a Tamil Lyricist associated with film industry since late 1990s. Started his film journey in the year 1999, he has penned lyrics for over 1500 songs. The songs of his debut flick, Nee Varuvai Ena released in 1999 was immensely popular. He wrote the song, "Poonkuyil Paattu" for the movie. He also wrote a song, for 2010 television series, Kodi Mullai. He shot to fame after penning down the lyrics of very popular peppy number, ‘Daddy mummy veetil illa…’ from Pokkiri which became a huge hit and got appreciation as well as criticism. Since then he is regular in movies. He is known for his signature style of mixing English and Tamil words in his songs.

 

He was brought up in the arid belt. He had a keen observation for the people, their mannerisms and cultural elements that defined the region, and got inspired to write many of his songs. In fact many of his songs are spontaneous and emerged as chartbuster hits too. He has penned down many peppy numbers. The song ‘Rathagaja thuraga pathathigal ethirpinum’ in Veeram was inspired from the street singers whom he has seen as a child in Malligapuram. ‘Kodiyavanin uyirai edukka’ from Kanchana 2 had Tantric undertones in the lyrics and was inspired by the village soothsayers. He wrote the song ‘Single kisske loveaa’ in Uttama Villain having Kamalhassan in mind.

 

Kavignar Kannadasan is his role model among modern-day poets. He also enjoys reading Sangam-age poems which are steeped in love. He takes in the essence of the storyline and delivers what the subject of the movie demands. His songs in Si3 have become a major hit. Motta Shiva Ketta Shiva, Vivekam and Yang mang chang are among his recent projects.
