Viswanatha Satyanarayana Biography

Viswanatha Satyanarayana was a great writer of Telugu literature known by the name Kavi Samraat. His works included poetry, novels, drama, short stories and speeches and covers all aspects of social issues, philosophy, religious matters as well as historical figures. His works are regarded as classics of Telugu literature. He was a disciple of the Tirupati Venkata Kavulu duo, Diwakarla Tirupathi Sastry and Chellapilla Venkata Sastry. In 1970 he received Jnanpith award for Ramayana Kalpavrukshamu. Other popular works of Viswanatha include - Kinnersani patalu and Veyipadagalu. He received Padma Bhushan in the year 1971. Viswanatha's literary works includes 30 poems, 20 plays, 60 novels, 10 critical estimates, 200 Khand kavyas, 35 short stories, 3 playlets, 70 essays, 50 radio plays, 10 essays in English, 10 works is Sanskrit, three translations, 100 introductions and many more. Indeed a great and versatile writer who contributed a lot to Indian literature. He was a traditionally trained scholar in several subjects too.

 

Viswanatha was born on September 10, 1895. He was born in Nandamuru, Madras state British India (now Andhra Pradesh). His three series of novels, based on Kota Venkatachalam's chronology depict all social and cultural aspects of ancient and medieval society. Purana Vaira granthamala is a series of 12 novels about the Magadha Royal dynasties after Mahabharata war. Kashmira Rajavamsa caritra is a series of 6 novels about the Royal dynasties of Kashmir. Nepala Rajavamsa caritra is a series of 6 novels about the Nepali Royal dynasties. Many of his works have been later translated to several languages. Former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao translated his Veyipadagalu to Hindi titled Sahasraphan.

A few of them include - Pulula Satyagraham, Banavati, Vishnu Sharma English Chaduvu, Teraci Raju, Ekaveera, Baddana Senani, Bhramara Vasini, Lalita Pattanapu Rani, Celiyali Katta, Nandigrama Rajyam, Banavathi, Dindu Kindi Poka Chekka, Patipettina Nanemulu and Candavolu Rani.
