Vishnuvardhan (director) Biography

Vishnuvardhan is a successful director of Tamil movies, most known for blockbuster movies like Billa (remake of Amitabh Bachchan’s Don in a new version) with Super star Ajith as the leading actor. His other two most successful movies are Arinthum Ariyamalum (2005) and Pattiyal (2006). He was an assistant director of Santosh Sivan who made his directorial debut in 2003 with Kurumbu, a commercial failure. But now he is a household name of Tamil cinema.

 
Vishnuvardhan was born in Kumbakonam. His younger brother is also related to Tamil cinema. He is actor Krishna Sekhar. Their father’s name is Kulasekaran. After graduation in Chennai he completed visual communication from Loyola College, Chennai. He has also appeared as a child artist in Mani Ratnam's Anjali and Chatriyan. From 2000 onwards, he has done brief roles in movies like The Terrorist, Fiza, Malli and Asoka.

 
His association with Santosh Sivan started in the sets of Shah Rukh Khan movie, Ashoka, where he expressed his dreams to the director who was to debut Bollywood with the same film in the year 2001. He learnt the techniques of cinema making through the experiences he got during the shooting of the film. He has also worked as an assistant director for Santosh’s movie, Malli.

 
Kurumbu starring Allari Naresh and Diya marked his directorial debut. The movie was produced by him and didn’t fare well in box office. He returned in a bang with Arinthum Ariyamalum starring Arya, Navdeep and Samiksha after a couple of years. The movie released in the year 2005 with less budget emerged as one of the big hits of the year. The film was produced by Geetha, a popular Malaysian radio jockey with whom Vishnu created history once again. The movie was Pattiyal. He retained the hero of his first hit movie too. Vishnu made his Telugu debut with panjaa in 2011. The movie had Pawan Kalyan and Sarah Jane Dias in leads but was a box-office failure.
