Vishnu Vijay Biography

Vishnu Vijay is a flautist and music composer associated with Malayalam film industry, best known for his debut work in Guppy. He composed both soundtracks and background music for this critically acclaimed film, which earned him Kerala state award for best background scorer in 2016. He is a recipient of Yuva Sangeetha Prathibha Puraskaram. Prior to his debut as an independent music director in Malayalam film industry, he has associated with many successful and experienced music composers of Malayalam cinema such as Ouseppachan, Gopi Sunder, Vidyasagar and Deepak Dev, working as their assistant or flautist. He has also worked with Devi Sri Prasad, G. V. Prakash and Vijay Antony in other language films.

 

A flautist turned music composer of Malayalam cinema, Vishnu Vijay hails from Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. He was born on 20 May 1989. His father Vijayan Ambalappuzha is a retired professor of music at SSTMC. His father, a vocalist initiated him to the world of music by teaching him the basics of classical music. Though he started off as a vocalist, later he got attracted to flute, after watching his cousin, play the instrument. Later, he studied under flautist Kudamaloor Janardanan.

 

He is associated with music field since 2005, working under different music composers before marking his independent musical journey. He completed his Bachelor of Performing Arts (B.P.A) in Vocal music from prestigious Swathi Thirunal College of Music, Thiruvananthapuram. A proficient flautist, he won a hat-trick at Kerala State Youth festival during the years – 2002 to 2004, winning first prize in flute. He continued winning prizes at higher secondary level too, winning for the years, 2005 & 2006 while doing his Plus-Two course.

 

He has played the flute for music director Santhosh Narayanan for two songs in Kabali - ‘Vaanam’ and ‘Maya nadi’ and for the film’s re-recording sessions too. He also worked with several music composers of south Indian film industry, and relocated to Chennai. He used to create short musical pieces, and turned a full-fledged music composer in 2016 with Guppy.
