Vishal Bhardwaz Biography

Vishal Bhardwaj was born in Bijnor District on 4th August 1965 of Uttar Pradesh but belongs to Meerut. His father Ram Bhardwaj is well known poet and lyricist and mother Satya Bhardwaj a house wife. Ram Bhardwaz, father of Vishal was a government officer in sugarcane department. As a young man, Vishal Bhardwaj finished his schooling in Meerut and moved to Delhi for further education and completed graduation from the prestigious Hindu College, Delhi University. Vishal develped a liking for theatres while student of Hindu College. He also met his future wife in Delhi University campus.

Vishal started playing harmonium as a hobby during his college days. He enjoyed the company of unknown singers playing his instrument in famous Pragati Maidan in Delhi as part of food festivals. Later he came in contact with R.V. Pandit and was offered a job in his CBS music company. Vishal came in contact of filmmaker Gulzar through one of his friends and he was offered to work with him in TV serials namely Alice in Wonderland and Gubbare and The Jungle Book. Guljar also offered Vishal Bhardwaj to composed music for his movies Maachis, a film with many awards brought commercial success for Vishal Bhardwaj. He received the coveted Filmfare Award in 1996. Vishal Bhardwaz also received Rajat Kamal award for Best Music Direction at the National Film Awards for Godmother.

He produces various movies under his banner and received six National Film Awards. Here it would be worth mentioning his first movie as a director 'Makdee' which was shown in the India section of Cannes Film Festival of 2003. His other popular movies Omkara and Maqbool were screened market section of 2004 and 2006 Cannes Film Festivals. The last movie directed by him 'Haider' opened at the 19th Busan International Film Festival received great atention by the media and movie goers and some of its credit goes to its theme.  The film won the People's Choice Award in Rome Film Festival the first ever Indian film to achieve this award. The film was also awarded with the Best Male Playback Singer, Best Dialogue, Best choreography, Best Costume Design, and Best Music Direction at the 62nd National Film Awards.

Vishal Bhardwaz has a long list of achievements to his credit as a prominent Director, producer, screenplay writer, music director, singer, and lyricist.
