Vinod Tawde Biography

Vinod Tawde is a young political leader from Maharashtra belonging to Bharatiya Janata party. Tawde is the Leader of Opposition in the Maharashtra Legislative Council and serves his third consecutive term in the council. In the state assembly elections 2014, he got elected from Borowali. Alongside Devendra Fadnavis and Eknath Khadse, he is one of the key BJP candidates for state assembly elections 2014. He is a board director of the NGO, Rambhau Mhalgi Prabodhini.


Vinod Tawde was born on July 20, 1963 in Girangaon, Mumbai. He holds Bachelors of Engineering in Electronics. He got involved with ABVP (Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad) during his college days and became a youth leader. His active political career began in 1995, when he got selected as the Maharashtra General Secretary of the BJP. He served the position for long 4 years till 1999. He was elected for the same post in 2002, and he held the position till 2011 for long 9 years. He became the President of the Mumbai Metropolitan Unit of the BJP in 1999, becoming the youngest candidate to 
reach this position. 


As a young leader, Tawde is known for many initiatives taken. They include his support to mill workers in 2011, an early completion of memorial of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the Arabian Sea in 2012 and demand a separate budget for agriculture. He is the first Maharashtra leader who asked for a separate budget of agriculture, to ensure improvements in agriculture field. He demanded a special session of the state Legislature to table the action taken report following the infamous Adarsh housing society scam.
