Vinod Bhatt Biography

Vinod Bhatt was a well-known writer belonging to Gujarati literature, best known for humour works. He received Ranjitram Suvarna Chandrak in 1989, the highest literary award in Gujarati. Sanskar Chandrak in 1980, Ramanlal Nilkanth Hasya Paritoshik in 2016, Sahitya Gaurav Puraskar in 2005 and Kumar Chandrak in 1976 are other major honours he received during his lifetime. He passed away most recently in 2018, leaving behind a huge collection of humour works. He served as the president of Gujarati Sahitya Parishad during 1996-1997.

Vinod Bhatt was born on 14 January 1938 in Nandol, Gujarat, British India. Jashvantlal and Jayabahen were his parents. He matriculated in 1955 and graduated in commerce in 1961. He completed his law studies three later and began his professional career as a sales tax consultant, followed by income tax consultant, and he worked as a freelancer. As a writer he started writing humour columns in magazines and dailies, and it helped him to earn immense popularity among readers. Mag Nu Naam Mari in Gujarat Samachar and Idam Trityam in Divya Bhaskar were his popular columns.

He authored around 45 books during his lifetime, and most of them were dedicated to satire and humour. As a writer his active career began in the 1960s and published several books till mid-2000s. He also authored a few biographies in light humour which include Comedy King Charlie Chaplin, Narmad Ek Character, Swapnadrashta Munshi, Hasyamurti Jyotindra Dave, Great Showmen George Bernard Shaw and Anton Chekov. Some of his humour works include Pehlu Sukh Te Mungi Naar, Aajni Laat, Vinod Bhattna Prem Patro, Vinod ni Najare, Ane Have Itihas, Ankh Aada Kan, Granthni Garbad, Naro Va Kunjaro Va, Amdavad Etle Amdavad, Shekhadam Greatadam, Vagere Vagere Vagere.., Idam Tritiyam, Idam Chaturtham etc.
