Vikram Bawa Biography

Vikram Bawa is a fashion photographer also associated with the fields of advertising and landscape. A very talented artist, he was the first Indian photographer to promote and showcase 3D photography in the late 1990s. As a fashion photographer he has photographed almost all leading personalities of Bollywood including Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Akshay Kumar, Shilpa Shetty, Aishwarya Rai, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Abhishek Bachchan, Karishma Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra etc. He has also conducted solo and group exhibitions of his photographs. He unveiled his Fashion Calendar on the theme of Draupadi in Mumbai in 2014.

Vikram Bawa was born in Delhi on 16 March 1970. His family moved to Mumbai during his childhood and got settled there. Bawa’s younger days were spent in Mumbai where he attended school and college. At the age of 18 he began his professional career as the managing director of a chemical firm. However he left the job and turned a professional photographer in 1996. He began photography as a hobby at the age of 16. He started shooting on a Yashica automatic camera. Later he bought a Yashica FX 3 Super 2000 SLR, with which he learnt photography skills.

As a fashion photographer, his first photography assignment was with Rani Jeyraj, Femina Miss India 1996. Apart from photographs, he has also directed some music videos and a short film called ‘Yahaan Gandhi Bikta Nahin’. A pioneer of Fashion Films in India, he has taken projects for some of the leading brands of the country. As an ad photographer he has exclusively worked with some of the leading brands of the country. He is fondly called "Master of Gimmicks".
