Viji Chandrasekhar Biography

Viji Chandrasekhar is a popular film actress associated with Tamil cinema. She is the younger sister of popular actress Saritha. Viji Chandrasekhar has played lead and supporting roles in Malayalam and Tamil cinema. Currently she portrays mother roles on television and cinema. She made her film debut with 1981 cult classic - Thillu Mullu where she played Rajnikanth’s sister Uma. After a break for studies, she is regularly associated with Tamil and Malayalam cinema. Pathemari and Thinkal Muthal Velli Vare are her recent Malayalam releases. She was also seen in 2016 Tamil movie – Nayyapudai. Aarohanam and Madha Yaanai Koottam are her noted appearances in the recent times, and both bagged her nomination at Vijay Film Awards for best actress in a supporting role.

Her acting debut happened in the year 1981. Her debut movie, Thillu Mullu was a huge hit, which established actor Rajinikanth. Viji essayed the role of lead actor’s sister. Yet Viji decided to continue her studies. After a long break of 10 years, she re-entered film scene in 1991 with the film, Kaliugam (Telugu). The following year she made her Malayalam debut with Devi IAS, where she played the title role of Devi. Later she was seen in supporting roles in Tamil films - Kizhakku Cheemayile, Priyanka, Indira, Padayappa, Parthale Paravasam, Aaytha Ezhuthu etc. Once again she disappeared from film scene following her marriage.

She once again returned to big screen with more mature roles. Aarohanam in 2012 marked her comeback. She played the role of Nirmala, a vegetable vendor affected by bipolar disorder in the movie which received rave reviews. She also received two nominations for supporting role at Vijay Film Awards and SIIMA Awards. She has also acted in 35 serials in the past two decades.
