Vijayendra Ghatge Biography

Vijayendra Ghatge is an Indian actor who works in Bollywood and television serials, most known for portraying supporting and character roles.  He played the role of Lala Vrishbhaan in the most popular television serial of Doordarshan during 1980’s – Buniyaad. Chitchor (1976), Prem Rog (1982) and recently Devdas (2002) are among the most noted character roles played by him in Bollywood movies. Kasme Vaade (1978), Satte Pe Satta (1982), Hum Se Badkar Kaun (1981) and Razia Sultan (1983) are other noted roles in Bollywood. Ghatge is a member of the royal family of Kagal. He played lead role in second 3D movie of Malayalam – Pournami Raavil. The fantasy movie was directed by Vincent where he was casted opposite Viji. Janardhanan and Anuradha played supporting roles in this movie.

Ghatge was born in a Royal family of Kagal closely related to many Maratha royal families. His mother, Sita Raje Ghatge, is the daughter of Maharaja Tukojirao Holkar III of Indore. Ghatge started his film career with a supporting role in 1976 movie, Chitchor. He played the role of Sunil Kishan, the engineer in this movie. He played a significant role in the success of the movie, though it was a cameo appearance. Soon he received many roles in Bollywood, mostly in character roles. Kasme Vaade (1978), Prem Rog (1982) and Razia Sultan (1983) are noted ones.

In 1986, he entered small screen with classic serial of Doordarshan Buniyaad. Audience of 1980’s still remembers his role as the character artist - Lala Vrishbhaan. Success of Buniyaad prompted him to do more television serials and he very soon became a household name. He also appeared in one episode of Doordarshan series - Vikram Aur Betaal. He played the role of Aishwarya Rai’s husband in Bollywood super hit – Devdas.
