Vijaya Nirmala Biography

Vijaya Nirmala is a film actress and director of Telugu and Malayalam languages. She holds the Guinness record of highest number of movies as a female director. She directed 44 movies in her career. She started her career in the year 1957 as a child artist and has completed more than 50 years in the industry. She is married to Telugu super star Krishna (Siva Rama Krishna Ghattamaneni), and actor Naresh is their son. Actors - Mahesh Babu, Manjula Swaroop and Ramesh Babu are her stepchildren. She got recognition as an actress with the films Rangularatnam directed by B N Reddy and Sakshi directed by Bapu. She turned director with the film Meena and currently she manages the Padmalaya Studios.

She was born in 1946. She made her film debut through Panduranga Mahatmyam at the age of 11. Her second release was Bhookailas released the following year. She was the female protagonist of Bhargavi Nilayam – one of the landmark films of Malayalam. It was for the first time she got lead heroine role and it was her third movie, which marked her debut as an adult actress. She was paired opposite Prem Nazir in this horror romantic movie directed by A. Vincent. The movie was released in the year 1964 and was the first horror movie made in Malayalam. The following year she made her Tamil and Telugu debut with the movies, Enga Veetu Penn and Manchi Kutumbam respectively.

In 1965, her second Malayalam movie was released – Rosy, which is still remembered for the nostalgic song, Alliyambal Kadavil. Once again she was paired with her successful hero of his debut movie, Prem Nazir. Udyogastha, Karutha Pournami, Durga and Anweshichu Kandethiyilla are her other noted Malayalam releases. She worked in parallel in Malayalam and Telugu movies.
