Vijay Ulaganath Biography

Vijay Ulaganath is a successful cinematographer, who primarily works in the South India film industry. Till now he has handled camera for Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu films. Neelathamara, Thoonga Nagaram, Bhaskar The Rascal, and Sigaram Thodu are his major works, belonging to different languages. Majority of his works belong to Malayalam, and he has frequently collaborated with acclaimed Malayalam director Lal Jose. He has also regularly worked with Siddique. Sei and Bhaskar Oru Rascal are his most recent works in Tamil, and Rendavathu Padam directed by C. S. Amudhan is his upcoming movie.

 

Vijay Ulaganath hails from Tamil Nadu. He took diploma in Film Technology from Film and Television Institute of Tamil Nadu. Then he joined Cinematographer K. V. Anand in the early 2000 as his assistant and has worked for Hindi movies like Naayak, The Legend of Bhagat Singh, Khakhee etc and also Tamil films like Sivaji till mid-2000s. As an independent cinematographer his first break was given by B. Unnikrishnan through 2008 Malayalam film, Madampi starring Mohanlal and Kavya Madhavan. Then he worked with Lal Jose for three projects in a row - Kerala Café (anthology film), followed by Neelathamara and Elsamma Enna Aankutty.         

 

His work in Neelathamara was critically acclaimed, and from there on he received numerous offers from the industry. The following year he got his first break to Tamil film industry through Thoonga Nagaram (2011). In 2012 he made his Telugu debut through Sudigadu. He teamed up with Siddique for the first time in 2015 for the movie, Bhaskar the Rascal and later worked with him for the movies – Fukri and Bhaskar Oru Rascal – Tamil remake of his own film for which Vijay did the camera work.
