Vijay Raaz Biography

Vijay Raaz is a Bollywood actor, known for supporting roles. The role of Dubeyji in the movie Monsoon Wedding is regarded as his breakthrough performance. He is often seen depicting the character of a common man and has played wide range of roles from a simple man to comedy actor. Though his roles are small, he has surprised audience with his unique talents and flexibility in handling roles. He entered direction field by directing the movie, Kya Dilli Kya Lahore. The movie set to release in 2014 deals with the subject of Indo-Pak partition and he plays the lead role of Rehmat Ali in this movie. The movie is produced by Karan Arora.

Vijay Raaz was born in November 30, 1963 in Delhi. His childhood days were spent in Delhi itself. He graduated from Kirori Mal College and during his college days, he was active in theater as a stage actor. He also appeared in plays at the National School of Drama. Then he reached Mumbai where he got a small role in Ram Gopal Varma’s Jungle released in 2000. It was Naseeruddin Shah who had seen him perform at the NSD, recommended his name to Mira Nair and Mahesh Mathai. Thus he got two of his memorable roles of his career - Bhopal Express and Monsoon Wedding. Another memorable role was Raghu Romeo in 2003 where he played the lead role of a guileless man who hails from a lower middle class family. The movie received National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi (Silver Lotus Award).

The Hindi remake of Tamil movie ‘Run’ with the same title brought him to limelight. Other noted roles include – Company, Aks, Aan: Men at Work, Yuva, Deewane Huye Paagal, Morning Raga, Fool and Final, Bombay To Goa, Welcome, Department, Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai, Damaal, Anwar, Gali gal ichor hai, Mudda - The Issue, Chura Liyaa Hai Tumne and Mumbai matinee.
