Vijay Krishna Acharya Biography

Vijay Krishna Acharya is the director of the highest grosser Indian movie – Dhoom 3 (2013), which broke all collection records and became the first Indian movie to collect 500 crore Indian rupees. Previous two installments were directed by Sanjay Gadhvi. Dhoom series have a significant cultural impact among urban Indian youth and have been blockbuster hits too. Vijay is also known as a noted screenwriter and lyricist of Bollywood. His movies are known for its style quotient and action. As a film director, Tashan starring Kareena Kapoor, Saif Ali Khan and Akshay Kumar marked his film debut. Dhoom 3 was his second directorial venture which was listed among the top 75 grossers worldwide in the year 2013. But the movie received mixed response from critics. He is the screenwriter of very popular television series, Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin. He also wrote the scripts of Just Mohabbat, Life Nahin Hai Laddoo, Son Pari and Shaka Laka Boom Boom.

 

He came to Mumbai in 1992 and became an assistant script writer to director to Kundan Shah for Shahrukh Khan starrer Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa.  He has been always attracted to writing.  Since then there has been no looking back. It was during the time when cable TV had just arrived. So he found more scope and independence in television in those days. His first venture on television was a political spoof called Channel Mast on VI TV by the late director Sudhanshu Mishra. The show was a dig at the then finance minister Manmohan Singh's liberalization policy and the main protagonist for the show was 'Funmohan Singh'. Noted actors like Ravi Baswani and Sushmita Mukherjee were roped for the show and the show turned out to be successful. Ramkhilavan CM and Family, Public Hai Sab Jaanti Hai and Krishna Sharma CA are other noted spoofs of Vijay.

 

In 2004 he got associated with Yash Raj Film’s Dhoom series, where he wrote story, screenplay and dialogues. The movie turned out to be a huge blockbuster and a trendsetter too. Later he wrote the screenplay and dialogues of next installments – Dhoom 2 and Dhoom 3 too. Tashan marked his directorial debut. With this movie he turned a lyricist also. Though the movie was a huge disaster at box office, the movie gained attention for Kareena Kapoor's flaunting zero-size figure, which became a trendsetter later.
