Vidisha Pavate is a former super model, who is credited to the first supermodel from India. Dusky and reed-slim, she was discovered by Prasad Bidappa, the Bangalore fashion icon at a party, who persuaded her to pursue a career in modelling. She was an IAS aspirant that time. She started her modelling career in 1995. Within a few months, in 1996, she was wearing the Ford Supermodel crown. In 2001, the dusky model Vidisha Pavate married her Australian fashion photographer Darren Centofanti, and took a retirement from the field very soon.

Vidisha Pavate hails from Bangalore. She was only a college going girl when she walked on ramp for the first time in 1995. Her unconventional looks gained attention quickly. She had a good height of 5 ft 9 1/2 inches which played a magnificent role in placing her name in the history books of Indian modelling industry as the first supermodel from India, when she earned the title - ‘Ford Super Model in 1996’. It happened in the mid-1990s, soon after Sushmita Sen and Aishwarya Rai brought international crowns to India so unexpectedly, and Indian fashion industry started booming. Vidisha was 18 years old when she earned the title of first supermodel from India. She also got opportunity to participate in Super Model finals held by the world-famous Ford Models Inc.

Vidisha Pavate is obliged to Prasad Bidappa, a fashion stylist and choreographer who also trained her to pursue new heights in modeling. A fashion statement, today she is an inspiration to several aspiring models and fashion enthusiasts in India and across the world. After winning the title, she signed numerous assignments for several leading brands in India. She signed up for brands like Deepam Saris and Goa, India’s first perfume launched by Ritu Nanda. Among TV ads, TV commercial for Santiago Rum made her a popular person.
