Venugopal Dhoot Biography

Venugopal Dhoot is a businessman, entrepreneur and the chairman and managing director of Videocon group of industries. He is the son of famous industrialist, Nandlal Madhavlal Dhoot who was the founder of Videocon Corporation and Electronics group of industries. At present he is the President of both Electronic Industries Association of Marathwada and Maharashtra United Nations Association (MUNA). He has earlier served as the President of the Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry of India (ASSOCHAM). This business tycoon is also an avid cricket fan and accomplished flautist. He launched Videocon School of Cricket in Kolkata to promote young cricketers which is guided by former Indian captain, Saurav Ganguly at present. Dhoot is also an environmental enthusiast who is credited for completing a project for planting 2 lakh teak plants across the country.

 

Venugopal Dhoot was born on 30 September 1951 in Mumbai as the son of famous industrialist, Nandlal Madhavlal Dhoot. His younger brother Rajkumar Dhoot is an active politician who currently serves as Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha) representing Shiv Sena. When Videocon group of industries got the first license to make colour televisions, it became the milestone in the Videocon group of industries. Very soon Videocon became an established Indian manufacturing firm of consumer goods, which produced other goods like refrigerator, air conditioners etc.

 

With liberalization principles, the company couldn’t gain much, as many foreign companies too got opportunity to play in Indian market. So, at this point, the company decided to diversify their aims to real estate and oil and gas sectors which became successful. In the past decade, their decisions to acquire a few products also proved right. Thomson SA’s colour picture tubes business and Electrolux Kelvinator are among those. Now the Videocon group turnover has exceeded 873 crore Indian rupees.
