Venu Arvind Biography

Venu Arvind is a director and noted actor associated with Tamil cinema and television, best known for playing antagonist Ranga in the television series – Alaigal. Regularly featured in K. Balachander's television serials, he achieved success playing villain onscreen. He has also directed one feature film - Sabash Sariyaana Potti and is also known as a stage actor and dubbing artist. He did more than 40 plays before he reached film world. He is a recipient of Kalaimamani award in 2007, the first television actor to receive it.

 

Venu was born in 1965 to a commercial tax officer. He graduated in physics and took PG in Management. But later he decided to become an actor. He has been quite active in theatre before reaching television. During younger days, he was fascinated by the charisma of MGR a lot and wanted to become like him.  In 1975, Venu was selected as a child artiste for Doordarshan, where he played a few plays with Poornam Visawanathan, then known by the name – Tuesday Plays.

 

Muthu Engal Sothu” was his first feature film as an actor. It was followed by Mani Ratnam's first film “Pagal Nilavu” and later appeared in “Alaipayuthey”. He was also seen in the films - Ennavale, Vallavan and Vegam. “Kasalavu Nesam”, “Vazhkai” and “Alaigal” are his noted roles in small screen. In his opinion it’s not easy to portray villain roles and often faced the wrath of the viewers which prompted him to think whether to continue with the role. “Alaigal” was his major career breakthrough and later he received numerous offers in negative role. This actor also loves comedy roles.
