Venkat Prabhu Biography
Venkat Prabhu is an Indian filmmaker, director, actor and playback singer concentrating in Tamil film industry. He is considered as a successful director.
Venkat Prabhu was born on 7th November 1975 in Chennai in Tamil Nadu. His father is the popular music director Gangai Amaran. He has one brother named Premji Amaran. The music director Ilayaraja is his uncle and Yuvan Shankar Raja, Karthik Raja and Bhavatharini are his cousins. On 10th September 2001, he married Rajalakshmi has one daughter named Shivani. Shivani has sung for the album Thaaaii when she was just five years old.
He completed his schooling at Annur Higher Secondary School at Chennai and got his degree in Accounting. Then he joined the Trinity College of Music at London to complete his degree in music and after staying at United Kingdom for seven years, returned India to pursue his dreams as a successful music director.
He started his career as a playback singer and set up a music band along with his brother Premji Amaran and S.P.B. Charan in 1996 known as Next Generation. His attempts to establish him in the lead role in some films failed and so he turned a character artist. His debut film as an actor was Poonolai directed by his father and this film was shelved and later released only to be a flop. His two other films in the lead role, Wanted and Kadhal Samrajyam also were failures and so he started to appear in supporting roles.
He entered film direction through his debut film Chennai 600028. This film bagged critical acclaim and was hailed as a classical one. His next directorial ventures in Saroja, Goa and Mankatha were also great successes that increased his popularity as a director. He collaborates with certain artists repeatedly in his films including Premji Amaren, Jai, Shiva, Vaibhav, Sampath Raj, Vasuki Bhaskar, Sneha, Nithin Sathya, Vijay Vasanth, Prasanna, Yuvan Shankar Raja, etc.
He has also written screenplays for some films. Some of the films that he has acted include April Maadhathil, Unnai Saranadainthen, Neranja Manasu, Ji, Sivakasi, Mazhai, Vaazhthugal, Saroja, Goa, Mankatha, Kazhugu, Vizhithiru, etc. He has bagged many awards for his film direction.
