Velmurugan Biography 
Velmurugan is a Tamil singer best known for his folk songs, and he has also rendered his voice for Tamil films as a playback singer. He gained recognition in Tamil film industry for folk songs, and shot to fame with his first recorded film song - "Madura Kulunga Kulunga" for 2008 film, Subramaniapuram. He was offered this song by James Vasanthan, which gave him a major career breakthrough. Aadungara of Naadodikal and Otha Sollatha of Aadukulam are other major songs of his film journey. Velmurugan has also composed film songs since 2011. With the emergence of rural cinema in a bang in Kollywood, Velmurugan got a lot of opportunities with similar themes, and earned success as well.
Velmurugan hails from a rural village Muthanai of Viruthachalam, Tamil Nadu. This place is in the border of the Cuddalore District and Ariyalur District. Velmurugan got his big break in Tamil film industry through Subramaniapuram, a love and revenge story in the backdrop of a village, and he was offered the village song, Madura Kulunga Kulunga by the composer James Vasanthan. After the movie turned a big hit, a new era of Tamil films based on rural themes was born, giving fresh opportunities to Velmurugan. Till 2012, he completed 75 films. As of now, he has sung for more than a 100 films.
In 2009, he received Edison Award for Best Introduced Playback Singer for the song "Aadungada" from the movie, Naadodikal. Some of his recent works include - Athamaga Pudikkavilla of Kannakkol, Unnai Vanangaatha of Madha Yaanai Koottam etc. He has also sang songs for movies such as Aranmanai, Uppu Karuvaadu, Komban, Vu, Saguni, Thaandavam, Oru Kal Oru Kannadi, Thambi Vettothi Sundaram, Porali, Ethir Neechal etc.
