Vashu Bhagnani Biography

Vashu Bhagnani is a successful film producer associated with Bollywood. He has produced several Bollywood hits in ‘No.1’ series, since mid-1990s. Coolie No. 1 (1995), Hero No. 1 (1997), Biwi No.1 (1999) and Shaadi No. 1 (2005) belong to this list. A few of his other successful ventures include - Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai (2001), F.A.L.T.U (2011), Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (1998), Pyaar Kiya to darna kya (1998) etc. Noted young actor Jackky Bhagnani is his son. His daughter Deepshika Deshmukh is married to noted young politician from Maharashtra, Dheeraj Deshmukh, youngest son of Vilasrao Deshmukh and younger brother of Bollywood actor, Ritesh Deshmukh. In 2016 he produced the much awaited and critically acclaimed film – Sarbjit, a biopic.

This filmmaker is known for producing several romantic movies in Bollywood. Though many of them have not met with commercial success since early 2000s, they have definitely got noticed for their melodious songs. Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein, Tera Jadoo Chal Gayaa, Jeena Sirf Merre Liye etc belong to this list. Other noted films include - Om Jai Jagadish, Deewaanapan, Ajab Gazabb Love, Humshakals, Himmatwala, Rangrezz etc. Most of his hit films belong to the era of 1990s. He launched his son Jackky Bhagnani through 2009 film, Kal Kissne Dekha and later produced movies such as moderate hit F.A.L.T.U, Youngistaan, Rangrezz and 2015 film, Welcome to Karachi.

Vashu Bhagnani is a Bengali born in Kolkata. He is of Sindhi Descent and his father’s name is Lilaram Bhagnani. Vashu entered film production in the mid-1990s and launched Puja Entertainment India Ltd. in 1995. Coolie No. 1 starring Govinda and Karishma Kapoor was his maiden venture, which became super hit at box office. By late 1990s, he became one of the successful producers of Bollywood film industry. In the 2000s, he continued making romantic flicks. However he couldn’t gain same success at box office similar to his hits of 1990s.
