Vaishali Kasaravalli Biography

Vaishali Kasaravalli was a popular Kannada actress, television serial director and costume designer. She was initiated to theatre by B.V.Karanth. Hayavadana, Jokumaraswamy, Midsummer Night’s Dream and Natakakaarana Shdhaneyalli Aaru Paathragalu are a few of her noted plays. She made her film debut with `Professor Huchhuraya' in 1972. She has directed popular Kannada TV serials like `Muttina Torana' and `Moodala Mane'. Other contributions include costume designing and she has even tried her luck in Indian politics. Vaishali Kasaravalli is the wife of renowned film maker of Kannada film industry, Girish Kasaravalli.

 

Vaishali Kasaravalli was born on April 12, 1952 in Gulbarga to Dr. Chitagopi and Nirmala. She took a bachelor in arts degree before joining theater. Her debut happened with B. V. Karanth’s play. When her family got migrated to Bangalore, she became more active in the theater field. Apart from acting in many plays, she has also directed Sevanthi Prasanga. She has also translated many playwrights.

 

Her film debut happened in the year 1972 with the movie, Professor Huchhuraya. A few of her popular roles include - Akramana, No 73 Shanthinivasa, Yarigu Helbedi, Chandramuki Pranasaki, Vigneswarana Vahana, Shanker Guru, Palitamsha, Ganeshana Maduve, Kittu Puttu, Angaialli Apsare, Kraurya, Hombisilu, Swamy, Gauri Ganesha, Thavarumane Udugore, Parivarthana, Thabarana Kathe, Ksheera Sagara, Anukolakkoba Ganda, Asegoba Meesegobba, Mooru Daarigalu, Mahadasoshi Sharana Basava, Sparsha, Nigatha, Panjarada Gili and Hoovondhu Beku Ballige. She has acted in many movies directed by her husband and she played lead role in his film, Aakramana for which she won state awards for best actress.

 

Later she moved to direction venture and televisions. She directed Kannada TV serials like `Muttina Torana' and `Moodala Mane' and has appeared in popular serials like Namma Nammalli, Kshamaya Daritri, Maaya Mruga, Kasa Musure Saroja, Malgudi Days and Manvanthara, Sadhane. As a costume designer, her works include - Bannada Vsha, Mane, Kubi Mathu Iyyala, Kraurya, Thaayi Saheba and Dweepa. She won National awards for best costume designer for the movie, Thaayi Saheba in 1998. She died on 27 September 2010 aged 58.
