Vadivudaiyan Biography

Vadivudaiyan is a film director and screenwriter who works on Tamil films. Vadivudaiyan made his directorial debut with the film Saamida (2008), and later made 5 more films. Three of the films – Pottu, Veeramadevi and Kanniyum Kaalaiyum Sema Kadhal are in postproduction stage while Thambi Vettothi Sundaram and Sowkarpettai got released. Veeramadevi is a big budget project and it marks the debut of Bollywood actress Sunny Leone in south Indian cinema. Being made in Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam apart from two more languages, it’s tipped to be being made on a budget of over Rs 100 crore, and hence has grabbed everyone’s attention.

He started his film journey as an assistant director under Malayalam film director, Shaji Kailas. He shot his debut film exclusively in Kasi. However the film titled, Saamida released in 2010 went unnoticed. After 3 years his second film got released. The drama film Thambi Vettothi Sundaram (2011) starring Karan and Anjali in the lead roles too couldn’t receive favourable reviews from film critics. During film shooting, the team had to face a lot of hardships also. Local people protested against the use of the title and attacked director Vadivudaiyan on the set.

In 2012, Vadivudaiyan began his own production studio, Singam Cinema. He also announced his trilingual project, Chokkanathan. He wanted the Hindi version to be done by Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Vidya Balan. But the project didn’t materialize. Kanniyum Kaalaiyum Sema Kadhal starring Karan, Tarun Gopi and Tripta Parashar was his next project. The movie is yet to have its theater release. Sowkarpettai and Pottu are other projects. Currently he is in spotlight for directing one of the biggest films in the recent times. The film titled Veeramadevi is to be made on a huge budget of 100 crores.
