V. Srinivas Mohan Biography

V. Srinivas Mohan is a National award winning visual effects designer, coordinator and supervisor associated with south Indian cinema and Bollywood. An ace visual effects designer and supervisor of Indian films he has been awarded with National Film Awards for Best Special Effects four times since 2006. In the past one decade, he received the award for four big budget movies - Magic Magic (2006), Sivaji (2007), Enthiran (2010), and Baahubali: The Beginning (2015). Srinivas has been frequently associated with Tamil director Shankar, known for big budget movies. Dharani, and Murugadoss are other leading directors with whom he has worked with.

Basically he is a computer programmer from Andhra Pradesh who came to Chennai in 1991 to learn 3D animation. When he reached Chennai in the early 1990s, special effects was not so popular and only a few were there in the industry who were experienced with this technique. He did a one-month course in animation and impressed by his work, he was appointed by Indian Artists Company. He also did a few freelancer works in the next six months. He decided to stay in Chennai itself as the metro city is the central hub of many developments in the film scene. Very soon he went on to become a leading name in special effects of the industry.

Indian Artists Company is one of the oldest animation companies and he started off with subtitling TV serials, followed by films and TV ads. Shankar’s Indian – one of the most expensive films in the mid-1990s marked his film debut. Since then he has done special effects for many Shankar movies such as Boys, Sivaji, Nanban, Jeans, Anniyan, Ethiran etc. Veyil, Ramanaa, Imsai Arasan 23rd Pulikecei, Gajini, Enakku 20 Unakku 18, Maattrraan, Anegan, Gilli etc are other noted Tamil movies.  In 2006 he made his Bollywood debut with Krrish. Raavanaprabhu, Kunjikoonan, Mizhi Randilum, Runway etc are among his Malayalam movies.
